The Sullivan Elks Golf Course has been part of Sullivan’s west side since 1940: eighteen tree-lined holes where the fairways run tight and the water and sand keep things interesting. It plays par 70 at 5,960 yards from the back tees, just east of US 41, and everyone’s welcome, since the course is fully public.
The season runs March 1 through November 30. Practice on a driving range, putting green, and chipping green. The pro shop rents clubs and electric carts, and a clubhouse restaurant and bar serve players between rounds. Outings, league play, and scrambles fill the calendar through the season. Metal spikes are not allowed.
The Elks is more than a place to golf. Indoor and outdoor spaces around the clubhouse book for weddings, receptions, reunions, corporate gatherings, and private celebrations, with the course as the backdrop and staff who help the day along. Ask at the clubhouse about dates.
Tee times go through the pro shop at (812) 268-6874. The course is at 600 West Wolfe Street in Sullivan. For golfers wanting a second round, Sullivan County Park & Lake runs a separate 9-hole course east of town. Both are open to the public.
