Sullivan County Park & Lake sits on 921 acres just east of Sullivan: 461 acres of lake, 460 acres of land. Open March through October, with most of the action on the water.
The lake supports boating, skiing, and tubing under a 30-mph limit with no cap on horsepower, which makes it the only public water in the county where skiing is allowed. A 40-foot ramp launches on the east side, with a second ramp at the G camping circle for smaller craft and handicap-accessible launching; 114 boat docks line the shore. Bring a spotter if you are pulling a skier, since Indiana wants eyes on them besides the driver’s.
Hybrid saugeye, walleye, bluegill, bass, and crappie are stocked; redear and channel catfish round out the catch. Pontoons and fishing boats rent on-site. The gatehouse sells live bait, propane, and firewood. The sandy beach has picnic tables along the water, and food trucks pull in for the festival weekends.
Campsites cover the wooded ground, with RV hookups, deluxe cabins with full baths, and primitive sites. A 9-hole golf course and an 18-hole disc golf course run through the season, with golf carts for rent at the office. Off the water you’ll find a playground, basketball court, RC track, arcade, pickleball courts, horseshoe pits, and a fish-cleaning station.
Four three-day festivals anchor the season: the Memorial Day Tribute Festival in May, the Fireworks over the Lake Freedom Festival in July, the Labor Day Festival in September, and the Trunk-or-Treat Halloween Spooktacular in October.
