The Merom Public Library has served the river town of Merom from the same 1918 building since it opened, one of the small classical libraries Andrew Carnegie’s grants funded across the country. Merom is the smallest town in the United States with a Carnegie-built library, and the little building wears the distinction well. It is one of two Carnegie buildings in the county library system, the other being the main library in Sullivan.
A branch of the Sullivan County Public Library, it lends books and brings the system’s services to Merom and the countryside around it. It is on the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture.
