The campus behind this marker was dedicated in 1862 as Union Christian College, and it held classes until 1924. It reopened in 1936 as the Merom Institute, a rural enrichment center, and it serves today as a camp, conference, and retreat center, and five-story College Hall still crowns the grounds. The marker reads Merom Conference Center, the name the campus used in 1989, when it was placed; the grounds are the Merom Camp & Retreat Center today.
