Most nature trails are built by a parks crew. This one was built by high school students with hand tools, cutting a path through thick underbrush. The General Daniel Sullivan Nature Trail is a public walking trail on the west side of Sullivan, created and maintained by the Sullivan FFA Chapter as an Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project in 2016, with funding from local supporters and the National FFA Organization.
The trail is named for General Daniel Sullivan, a frontiersman and hero of the Revolution in the West. Sullivan County is the only county in the country named for him. Today the path is used by the community for a walk and by Southwest School Corporation students for lessons in agriculture, history, and the outdoors.
The trailhead is at 415 W. Frakes Street, with parking in the gravel lot by the red barn just west of Sullivan Middle School. The trail is open daily, dawn to dusk, and free to walk.
